Our devotion on this Monday is called,” I need a guard ” Proverbs Chapter 21 at verse 23 says, Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles. I guess the question would be, How do we guard our mouth and tongue? Because I believe most of us would want to keep our soul from trouble. The Kind of Trouble that comes from saying whatever comes into our mind which causes us to have enemies that we really don’t want. One way to guard our mouth and tongue is to practice James chapter one and verse 19. Which says, so then, My beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; Verse 20 says, For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. So when it comes right down to it, it is up to us to guard our mouth and our tongue! I have to make the decision myself on not saying hurtful things, not responding quickly to someone’s rude comment and by doing this I will keep myself from many troubles. Romans Chapter 12 and verse 17 says, repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men and then in verse 18 it says, if at all possible, As much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. I got a speeding ticket about a month and a half ago and I told the lady that I was paying my fine to, The last thing to get saved is your right foot and sometimes it’s our mouth that gets us in so much trouble but just like speeding we have the choice to slow down and to not say rude things. Ephesians Chapter 4 verses 17 and 18 tells us not to walk like the Gentiles walk or the unbelievers and then in verse 20 through 23 it tells us to put off the old man and part of that old man is putting a guard at our mouth. So the Lord tells us that we are responsible for our own actions and what we say. But always remember I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, Philippians 4:13. Have a wonderful blessed day and always remember that Jesus loves you!
